Abstract

This study sought to investigate the impact of training and development on employee performance. The following objectives served as the study's guiding principles: identify the forms of training and development that affect employee performance at NHIF, evaluate employee performance at NHIF, and establish a link between training and development and employee performance at NHIF. The theories underpinning this study were systems theory, competency modelling, and organizational learning design theories. The study targeted 116 accessible employees working at the NHIF in Nairobi. Secondary data was gathered from a variety of sources, including the NHIF strategic plan, newsletters, and NHIF performance reports while primary data was collected using a questionnaire. The study revealed that a majority of respondents (85%) agreed that they got effective trainings and development that improve performance; 85.6% agreed that training needs analyses are carried out frequently at NHIF by the human resources department. According to the findings, 90% of respondents said they can now work on important tasks thanks to staff training and development programs which have led to improved performance within the organization. The study concluded that NHIF had in place effective training and development programs for its employees as affirmed by 85% of the respondents. The organization's competencies and overall performance have increased by 85.6%. The study recommends that in order to meet and maintain the needs of their consumers, NHIF staff need greater opportunities for training and development. Additionally, it is advised that NHIF provide its staff with training as soon as they start working there in order to assist them become more productive and perform better.
