Abstract

Strategy implementation is an integral part of strategic management process as it entails translating the formulated strategy in to action. Strategic managers who successfully implement strategies enjoy competitive advantage over those who are less competent in implementing the strategies. Successful implementation of strategies formulated will depend on effective leadership provided by top management in the organization. Unfortunately most top managers delegate this responsibility and do not follow through the actions. In light of the above problem, the researcher investigated the role of strategic leadership in strategy implementation in not-for-profit organizations with PATH serving as a case study. In order to achieve this, data was collected using questionnaires administered to a representative sample from the total population at PATH Kenya. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of strategic leadership in strategy implementation in not for profit organizations, a case study of PATH Kenya. The study had three objectives: To identify the role of strategic leadership in strategy implementation at PATH Kenya, to determine the perceived barriers to strategy implementation and to establish the influence of organization structure on strategy implementation at PATH Kenya. The data collected and analyzed indicated that management supported and played a role in strategy implementation. Respondents also acknowledged the existence of systems within the organization that support strategy implementation. Overall the study established that there is a strong link between strategic leadership tactics and the resultant effects on employees’ ability to effectively implement strategy.
