Abstract
The study sought to establish the components of spiritual training that support adolescents’ spiritual nurture in selected Churches in Makadara Sub-County, Kenya. The objectives of the study included: to establish the components of spiritual training to support adolescents’ spiritual nurture in selected Churches in Makadara; to examine the activities undertaken by selected churches; to assess the level to which children’s ministry trainings influenced the spiritual formation of adolescents and to analyze the challenges children’s ministry workers faced in providing spiritual nurture to adolescents. The study employed a descriptive design. The target population comprised of 860 members of selected churches as well as church leaders, youth ministers, and workers in the children's ministries. A sample size of 384 respondents included in the study using simple random sampling procedure. Interviews and questionnaires were used to gather the data and then analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The study revealed that that a clearly designed framework that was easy to understand was used to allocate children classes based on their age. The framework was also used in allocating amiable teachers to classrooms as well as in alignment of their tasks. Further it was established that workers received training in child-related topics, they were well-informed about the ministry and prepared to teach children well. The study concluded that children’s ministry was also composed of ministry workers who had adequate education and experience needed to guide children towards spiritual formation. The study recommends that churches should continue to strengthen the organizational structure of the children’s ministry and ensure that there are adequate teachers who place importance on maintaining a friendly learning environment.
