The purpose of the study was to establish the effect of strategic innovation on the performance of commercial banks in Kenya. The objectives were; to identify the types of strategic innovation at Commercial Bank of Africa, to determine the effects of strategic innovation on the performance of Commercial Bank of Africa, and to identify challenges facing strategic innovation at Commercial Bank of Africa. The study was grounded on Blue Ocean Theory, Resource Based Theory, and Knowledge Based View theory. The study used descriptive research design. The target population for the study was 623 employees working at the head office of Commercial Bank of Africa - Kenya. 150 employees were sampled for the study. Primary data was gathered by use of a semi- structured questionnaire and an interview guide. The questionnaire was self-administered using a drop and pick method. The data collected through the questionnaire was analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 11.5 for consistency and then coded. The results were presented in form of tables for ease of understanding, and a multiple linear regression analysis model was used to test and link the variables. Among the study‟s findings were that there was a positively and significantly correlation between strategic innovation and performance of Commercial Bank of Africa; and that technological innovation had a positive and significant effect on the performance of the bank. Some of the study‟s recommendations included: that that management of CBA identifies gaps in strategic innovation and finds ways to make it more effective for this would lead to an improvement in the organization‟s performance, and that that banks should take note of process innovation to improve their performance.en_US
