dc.description.abstractThe purpose of the study was to determine the effects of working capital on the financial performance of Kenya Commercial Bank. This study was guided by the following objectives; To identify the various working capital management practices used by Kenya Commercial Bank; To establish the effect of working capital management practices on financial performance of Kenya Commercial Bank; To examine the challenges faced by Kenya Commercial Bank in implementing working capital management practices. This study used the descriptive survey design which provided the needed information on the population. The target population for the study included 736 staff. The sample size for the study was 167 respondents. The collected research data was coded so that each item on the Likert questionnaire had a numerical value attached to it. The responses were edited for completeness before entry into Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS version 22.0) program. Descriptive analysis was done where percentages, means and frequencies were computed. Multiple regression analysis was done to show the relationship between the independent and the dependent study variables. The study established that the bank adhered strictly to the budgetary parameters put in place by the budget controller; successful cash management lies in tabulating realistic projection, the bank accelerates the receivable periods to secure its profitability and the bank maintained active credit control function that sets credit collection policies. The study concluded that there was statistically significant association between cash management, inventory management, accounts receivable management and accounts receivable management and financial performance of commercial banks in Kenya. The study recommended that all commercial banks in Kenya should strictly adhere to their budgetary parameters put in place by their budget controllers; Commercial banks in Kenya should also make proper use of their resources to improve their financial performance; the top management of all commercial banks in Kenya should accelerate the receivable periods to secure their profits.
