dc.description.abstract | This research sought to explore the effects of flexible working arrangements on employee performance within Daystar University. The research project examined the following objectives: establish the current flexible working arrangements in place, investigate and establish the teaching faculty perception of FWA, examined the influence of FWA on employee performance, examined the challenges employees’ face with current flexible working arrangements and established the capacity of FWA staffing at Daystar University. The ambiguity of national distance education policies in African countries such as Kenya raises a pertinent issue of establishing policies to provide a framework for the development of a robust distance education. Furthermore, International labor organizations global report on flexible work arrangement of 2010 ranks Kenya among those with the highest prevalence of long working hours more than 48 hours per week (ILO, 2010). The study was guided by two theories; the two- factor theory and the self-determination theory, for the research design, descriptive research was adopted. Adopting a combination of both qualitative and quantitative methods, in collecting and analyzing data, gave an in-depth understanding of the variables under investigation. The target population was 20 senior management staff, 142 permanent faculty members Daystar University. The study adopted census technique. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics with the aid of statistical package of social sciences (SPSS), IBM SPSS 28, the results were presented in tables and charts. The study highlighted on some of the positive effects that result from employees using flexible work arrangements, including increased productivity due to uninterrupted quiet time and recommended the same to be done in other commercial organizations other than the university setting. The study suggested that future studies should be conducted on the application of flexible working arrangements by employees of other commercial organizations in Kenya as well as other sectors. | |
