dc.description.abstractPerformance appraisals are tools used by companies and employees to help gauge the value of the employee's performance, and determine how performance can be improved. The effectiveness of a performance appraisal can be judged in how well it achieves its strategic objectives. Understanding the strategic objectives in performance appraisals can help you to adapt performance evaluations to meet company needs. This study sought to investigate the effect of performance appraisal strategy on employee work attitude at Intra Africa Assurance Limited. The research adopted a descriptive research design. The target population was 50 employees in different managerial levels at Intra Africa Limited head office. Since this was a small number no sampling technique was required. Quantitative data collected was analyzed using SPSS through descriptive statistics like percentages, means, standard deviations and frequencies. The findings were presented through tables, charts, and graphs. On assessing the effect of performance appraisal strategy on employees work attitude, the findings showed that the performance appraisal strategy adopted at Intra Africa Assurance had created a negative employee work attitude. The study established that performance appraisal strategies affected employee’s attitude and that top management support for the performance appraisal strategy affected employees work attitude. From the foregoing therefore, it is recommended that for the performance appraisal strategy to yield the desired outcomes, a new strategy has to be formulated
