Abstract
Knowledge Management (KM) requires turning personal knowledge into corporate knowledge that can be widely shared throughout an organization and appropriately applied for organization’s competitive advantage. The objective of the study was to determine the effect of Knowledge Management Strategies on Performance of Research Organizations in Kenya: A case study of the World Agroforestry Centre. The population comprised all 620 staff members of the World Agroforestry Centre. The target population was 204 out of which a sample of 20% which translated to 40 respondents for the study. Data was collected through self-administered questionnaire which the respondents filled. Data collected was analyzed using SPSS version 22.0 as the software to describe the relationship between the independent and the dependent variables. The study found out that the organization used knowledge identification, creation, acquisition, sharing, application and storage and retrieval. The study also found that knowledge management strategies had improved the quality of research findings of the Centre, enhanced skills upgrade among staff and timeliness in task performance among staff. The study established that knowledge management strategies had an effect on the performance of research organizations as they greatly influences customer satisfaction and employee delivery. The study also recommends that research organizations in Kenya should ensure that Knowledge Management Strategies are adhered to as these will enable them to gain competitive advantage.
