Abstract
Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) is currently operating under a dynamic business a•ironment faced with competition and evolving stakeholder needs. However, the rate at KPC implements its strategic innovations does not match the evolving and dynamic environment in which it operates in. The purpose of this study was to assess the that affect strategic innovation in state corporations under the Energy sector in Kenya.guided by the objectives; to establish the strategic innovations that KPC has identify factors affecting implementation Of Strategic innovation KPC establish the possible effect of strategic innovations on the competitiveness of KPC. tksctiptive research design was used where the total research population was 1600 z:cdoyees of KPC. The researcher however sampled 93 participants from a possible 310•:resenting the Head Quarters of KPC. The main sources of data were both primary and where questionnaire and structured interviews were used to collect data descriptive analysis used to analyze the data. From the findings a majority 65 (80%) of ae rspondents, indicated the importance of embracing strategic innovation. In addition, the formulation of an innovation strategy was a clear indication that the company is on to embracing strategic innovation. The key factors found to negatively affect strategic were staff skills and competencies, at a mean of 4.51 and lack of a reward system innovation at a mean of 4.37. This implied that the company has not been a conducive environment to manage strategic innovation. It was also found that resources to implement innovative solutions and initiatives, Government legislation innovations costly to finance, and conceptualizing ideas that are not aligned to affected strategic innovations but to a moderate extent in that order. It was important for KPC to institutionalize strategic innovation in order to sustain its in the shifting marketing dynamics within which it operates
