dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study was to assess depressive and anxiety disorders and their impact on the academic performance among students at St. Anne's Girls Secondary School, Nairobi County. The objectives of this study were; to assess the prevalence of depression disorders among students at St. Ann’s high school, examine the prevalence of anxiety among students, investigate the comorbidity of anxiety and depression among students and to analyze the relationship between social demographic characteristics depression and anxiey among high school students. The study used Attribution Theory which is concerned with how common people explain events and behaviors. This study’s target population were Girls in Catholic sponsored schools in Makadara constituency. A self-administered questionnaire and focus group discussion (FGDs) guide was the research tools used in this study. For analysing content from various sources, such as interviews, observations, or surveys, thematic analysis was regarded appropriate. The study found that a substantial proportion of parents reported being highly involved in their children's education, with an even larger segment being moderately involved. It found that progress reports, parent-teacher meetings, classroom observations, and online discussion forums were commonly used initiatives to foster communication. Mental Health Education and Awareness: Implement a comprehensive mental health education program within the school curriculum. This program should focus on raising awareness about depressive and anxiety disorders, reducing stigma, and educating students about available resources for seeking help. The study recommends further studies on Conduct studies to track the mental health and well-being of students at St. Anne's High School over an extended period.
