Abstract

to assess the Critical Success Factors for the establishment of kzya Commercial Bank (KCB): A Case Study ofNairobi region. was used in this study. It was conducted in selected branches, in—.:z fom the headquarters. A sample size of 80 staff was selected stratified random sampling. Questionnaires and Interviews were and were self-administered. 61 out of the 80 questionnaires were a:cpleted by the respondents. The findings of this study indicated that •e the five critical factors with a response rate ofmore than 80% the category of clients targeted by the new branch, the ability of the z the new branch conveniently and to retain them, the period of breaking branch, the branch profitability index, and the cost of the new branch to the bank. The main challenges experienced include high costs new branch establishment, constrained project timelines, inability of to break even, high bureaucracy and unrealistic expectations leading to the f very high targets. Based on those findings a conclusion was reached that affect the overall profitability ofthe bank since the accounts are a:csolidated, the top management should take into account the critical•zzEed in to consideration before opening branches. The research that the conducting of proper feasibility studies is also critical in order a •crect position.
