dc.description.abstractTechnical education and vocational training (TVET), helps a community move forward through poverty reduction and development of skilled workforce for development and sustainability. Africa Inland Child and Community Agency for Development (AICCAD), has set up a clear strategic plan to help Nairobi Training Centre (NTC) in meeting their objective of making sure that the program is effective. The presence of TVET at NTC has helped improve the livelihood of the community in meeting economic, social, and psychological needs. Despite the general view that TVET has helped many youth, there is need to review its effectiveness to ensure that the resources being put in are not wasted. It is on this basis that the researcher set out to carry out this study. In this study, the target population consisted of 309 alumni and staff from various departments. A sample population of 63 was arrived at by taking 20% of total population from the alumni, and 20% of total population of staff. Descriptive statistics used to analyse data included the mean, frequency, and percentages which facilitated the profiling of sample characteristics and major patterns emerging from the data. The quantitative data was presented in tables, charts and graphs. Major findings established that TVET at NTC had contributed to reduction of poverty and attainment of skills and knowledge. It was also established that the most popular courses undertaken by students were: Catering at (63.3%), followed by Hairdressing (29.9) % then lastly Fashion and Design 6.8%. Most of the respondents 96.6% (58), were doing the jobs that they had been trained for. The study also established that most of the alumni had been impacted economically, socially, psychologically, and spiritually. The extra curricula courses have helped them improve in their communication skills, and self-esteem. The study concludes that TVET at NTC is effective and has holistically
