dc.description.abstractThis study was concerned with investigating the lived experiences of women alcoholics and family cohesion in Township ward, Murang’a County, Kenya. This is because alcohol has affected many women who are expected to take the central role in the household responsibilities across the country as well as in this ward. The study focused on four main broad questions. That is, the socio-demographic characteristics of women alcoholics in Township ward, Murang’a County, Kenya, the lived experiences of women alcoholics in Township ward, Murang’a County, Kenya, the levels of family cohesion in the homes of women alcoholics in Township ward, Murang’a County, Kenya, and finally on the psychosocial effects of alcoholism on family cohesion among women alcoholics in Township ward, Murang’a County, Kenya. The study adopted family systems theory advanced by Kerr and Bowen and the social learning theory by Albert Bandura. This study adopted a descriptive survey design whereby the researcher used questionnaires and interview in order to get the necessary data. The study involved 86 households of child bearing aged women where cluster sampling method was applied to select the participating households, and simple random sampling method was used to select those who would participate. The results from this study revealed that there were certain demographic characteristics related to women alcoholism in the region. It is also important to note that there was a statistically significant correlation between family cohesion and alcoholism among the study participants raising the need for special intervention.
