Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between occupational stress and job satisfaction among police officers in selected police stations in Nairobi County, Kenya. Questionnaires were rolled out to a total of 246 to serving police officers, but only 204 questionnaires were completed and returned for analysis to establish the findings. The research embraced a descriptive survey and both qualitative and quantitative data was collected. Structured questionnaire and key informant interviews were used to obtain the data. The methodology applied conveyed insightful findings regarding the relationship between occupational stress and job satisfaction among the police workforce in selected police stations in Nairobi County. Further, the research identified measures that would prevent occupational stress among the police workforce in Nairobi County.
The study concluded that there is an elevated level of occupational stress among Kenya's police force, which has an effect on how well they perform their responsibilities. High levels of work-related stress can have a detrimental effect on decision-making, reaction speeds, and the capacity to handle challenging situations. Low job satisfaction can have an adverse effect on an officer's motivation and morale. Therefore, efforts should be made to reduce the high levels of occupational stress to increase job satisfaction.
