The current health sector in Kenya is very competitive and the need for hospitals to survive and ensure sustainability is very important. The hospitals are required to adopt a competitive strategy so that they may realize performance advantage over the competitors within the healthcare industry. The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of competitive strategies on performance of AIC-CURE International Children’s Hospital of Kenya. This study adopted the descriptive survey design. A census study of 78 respondents was conducted, this involved the senior and level managers at both the Kijabe and Westlands branches. Data was collected directly from the respondents using questionnaires which were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentages and statistics. The statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 19.0 was used to analyze data. The study concluded that there was a significant relationship between competitive strategies and performance with resources being the intervening variable. It was noted that a competitive strategy with the right utilization of the available resources could lead to performance, and that an organization should select a strategy that exploits the available resources and capabilities. In addition, the study found that in order to identify which performance tool to use, management should first identify the metrics that they want to measure. The study recommended that another study should be done to investigate the effect of competitive strategies on performance among public hospitals since their operations are different from NGO and mission hospitals like AIC CURE International Children’s Hospital.en_US
