dc.description.abstractThis study was an assessment of knowledge management practices on organizational productivity. Knowledge management is a fairly new concept within Kenyan organizations with only a few implementing this strategy. The increase in competition and focus on customer satisfaction has led to organisations considering new management practices that can enhance productivity as well as satisfy and surpass the needs and wants of customers. Focus is now on organisational learning, having highly knowledgeable employees which leads to information–based products and services. The research was based on a case study of Kenya Roads Board with a total population of 65 employees. A census was carried out and questionnaires were administered to the respondents. The data collected consisted of both quantitative and qualitative data with a total of 52 questionnaires analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21. The study found that knowledge was easily shared within KRB through emails, seminars and meetings, and that knowledge gained by employees was easily combined with existing knowledge within KRB. Knowledge was also transferred from one department to another at a moderate extent and there was sufficient storage media at KRB, although the stored knowledge was not regularly updated. The study also found that new knowledge was generated within KRB through trainings, interactions with various stakeholders and written communication amongst employees. The study concluded that knowledge management practices; sharing, integration, transfer, storage and production of knowledge existed within Kenya Roads Board, and these practices had an effect on the organizational productivity.
