Abstract
In today’s corporate environment, leadership has become critical and as the business environment continues to increasingly become complex the subject has raised great public attention and concern. Leaders who are knowledgeable and able to make informed decisions are key in organizational growth. The focus on important goals and the ability to marshall the efforts of the followers in achieving these goals is important and hence the need for strategic leadership. This study sought to establish the effects of strategic leadership on organizational growth at AFFSEA. The study was guided by the following objectives: to identify indicators of strategic leadership at AFFSEA, to determine how growth is measured at AFFSEA and to establish the relationship between strategic leadership and organizational growth at AFFSEA. The study adopted descriptive research and used a sample size of 47 AFFSEA staff. Questionnaires and an interview guide were used as instruments for data collection. The collected data was analyzed using the Statistical Package For Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21 to generate frequencies and percentages and the analysed data presented by use of tables, charts, graphs and in prose form. The study found several indicators of strategic leadership at AFFSEA, formal and informal reward systems that reinforce building highly motivated teams was lacking in AFFSEA to some extent. Profitability was the measure of growth and finally, there was a significant relationship between productivity and strategic leadership. The study concluded that there was no formal system of training on leadership development and recommended that management focuses on strategic leadership training deliberately to influence organisational growth.
