T Insomnia puts a lot of strain on those who experience it. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of insomnia disorder among adolescents and young adults as a result of electronic media use in St. Paul's Catholic University Chapel, Nairobi County, Kenya. The study objectives were to assess the prevalence of insomnia disorder, examine addiction to electronic media use, investigate the relationship between addiction to electronic media use and insomnia disorder, and analyze the relationship between sociodemographic characteristics and addiction to electronic media use among adolescents and young adults of St. Paul's Catholic University Chapel. Bandura's social learning theory (SLT), behavioral learning theory, and cognitive learning theory guided the study. A correlational research design was utilized to achieve the study objectives. The sample size comprised 101 adolescents and young adults aged between 13-23 years who either owned or had access to electronic devices as well as Internet connectivity. Data was collected through self-administered questionnaires, which was then analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), version 27. From the study findings, the majority (51.1%) of adolescents and young adults indicated that they had the presence of a moderate level of Internet usage addiction, 28.9% had a mild level of Internet addiction, 11.1% had a normal level of Internet usage, and 15.6% had severe dependence on the Internet. Therefore, there was a substantial positive relationship between Internet usage addiction and insomnia (p-value of 0.00, R-value of .710). The study recommends the need for setting up guidelines and advocacy for education on appropriate electronic media usage and intervention for associated sleep to mitigate electronic media use-related mental and behavioral health problems in adolescents and young adults.
