dc.description.abstractHotels perform an important economic activity in most countries in the world. As part of the fastest growing tourism and hospitality industry in the world, they are an important contributor to revenue earnings for most governments. This study aimed to determine the effect of compensation practices on employee effectiveness in the Hotel Industry in Kenya specifically at the Eastland Hotel. The specific objectives of the study were; to identify types of compensation practices at Eastland Hotel, to establish the challenges associated with compensation practices at Eastland Hotel and to establish the effect of compensation practices on employee effectiveness at Eastland Hotel. Descriptive research method was used. The population of the study comprised of all employees of Eastland Hotel hence census method was used for this study to gather data from all the employees. Questionnaires were used to collect data from the respondents of this study. Data was analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and presented using tables and figures. The findings revealed that there were various type of compensation practices at the Eastland Hotel that affect the level of employee effectiveness at the hotel. Again, it was revealed that there are challenges that affect the compensation practices at the Hotel. Recommendation of the study included incorporation of more compensation practices in addition to existing one, reinforcement and enhancement of the existing compensation practices, the fostering of the nonfinancial compensations as well as coming up with compensation models that recognize employees‟ efforts. The study was deemed important for hotel employers who wish to become and remain competitive in the industry
