Abstract

Strategic management practices across a country are concerned with the culture of the organizations. Policies under WTO and changes in Kenya's status regarding its main partner countries concerning horticultural exports affect the horticulture sector. The purpose of this study was to establish the effects of strategic compliance to practice guidelines on organization performance in horticulture industry, with special focus on Magana Flower Kenya. This study adopted a descriptive survey. The target population of this study was made up of 96 employees of Magana Flowers on permanent contract located at their flower farms in Kikuyu Sub-County. Stratified random sampling was applied in carrying out the study as per the level of management. A sample of 50% of the total population was used which came to 48 respondents. Structured questionnaires were used for data collection. Data was collected, tabulated and analyzed for purpose of clarity, using SPSS software. Data was presented using tables, and pie charts to make them reader friendly. The study established that strategic safety management and planning was essential for the implementation of safety and health policies and adequate control of risks was achieved only through coordinated action by all members of the organisation. The research revealed that strategic training and compliance to international regulations can enhance business performance by preserving and developing human and physical resources, by reducing costs and liabilities, and by expressing corporate responsibility. The study recommends that there is a need to develop comprehensive safety measures for hazard controls and that management of Magana Flowers should continually keep planning and developing policies on safety training and cost and effectiveness of hazard controls and programs.
