dc.description.abstractManagement strategies are the factors associated with customers and competitors and the organization itself to provide the basis for maintaining optimum management strategies in organizations. There has however been a lack of specific knowledge of the best management strategies that management can employ to differentiate their performance levels from others. This study therefore sought to establish and assess critical management strategies that affect performance of petrol stations in Eldoret town. It focused on the process through which these strategies affect organizational performance. The study was guided by the objectives, to identify management strategies adopted by petrol stations on performance of petrol stations in Eldoret, determine effect of management strategy on performance of petrol stations in Eldoret and to identify the challenges encountered by petrol stations on performance in Eldoret. The study adopted a descriptive research design. The population of interest in this study was 21 petrol stations located within Eldoret town Kenya. The target respondents were managers of the petrol stations. The data collection instrument was questionnaires. The collected data was analyzed using descriptive statistics with the help of a Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The study found that differentiation strategy, cost leadership, focus strategy and growth strategy all affected performance of petrol stations. The study found that price fluctuation was the greatest challenge they faced in pursuit of performance. The study recommended that since management strategies play an important role in performance of petrol stations, it is imperative that strategy implementation need to be practiced.
