dc.description.abstract | This study looked at the influence of capacity building on growth of selected Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Uasin Gishu County, Kenya. The objectives of the study were: to assess the capacity building components amongst selected MSMEs in Uasin Gishu County, Kenya; to evaluate trends in growth of selected MSMEs in Uasin Gishu County, Kenya; and to establish the influence of capacity building on growth of selected MSMEs in Uasin Gishu County, Kenya. This study adopted a descriptive research design. The target population for this study was selected MSMEs from market accelerator programs between the periods 2015-2017 (estimated to be about 700) who had received some form of capacity building support. The sample size for this study was therefore 11% of the accessible population of 350. The study adopted purposive sampling and the data collected was analysed using descriptive statistics. The study found that capacity building was valued amongst these MSMEs to a great extent, with the enterprises embracing new capacity building opportunities offered to them and sending their employees for regular capacity building sessions; the study found that after capacity building the MSMEs document steady growth trends for the periods of 2014 and 2018. The study found that competition and regulatory framework significantly affected how capacity building influenced the growth of MSMEs. In view of the findings, the study concludes that a significant link exists between embracing capacity building and growth of an MSME. The study recommends: the government should ensure there is conducive policy and regulatory framework for MSME growth; MSMEs should embrace regular capacity building; and, more research is needed on how capacity building can be instilled as an essential part of MSME growth. | en_US |
