Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of factors of job satisfaction on employee turnover at Orange Telkom Head Office, Nairobi. Its objectives were to establish the level of job satisfaction among employees at Orange Telkom, to identify factors leading to employee turnover at Orange Telkom and to determine the perception towards employee turnover at Orange Telkom. The study used the descriptive research design and the target population was the 459 employees at Orange Telkom, Head Office in Nairobi. Simple random sampling technique was used to sample 232 respondents for the study. Data was collected using the questionnaire and analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 21. Findings indicated that the factors which influenced job satisfaction and in turn led to employee turnover were grouped into four main categories, namely employee perception of equity, employee motivation, employee needs and job characteristics. The factors that contributed to the turnover included perception of inequity in employee treatment, job characteristics, lack of motivation and unmet employee needs. The study concluded that job satisfaction is important in an organization’s growth and that most employees were fairly satisfied with their jobs. In addition, most of the factors that significantly affected the feeling of job satisfaction and employee turnover were external. The study recommended that Orange Telkom should consider improving the level of job satisfaction amongst its employees by making sure employees were given tasks and the required tools to complete them and that the required outcome of the job should be made clear. The study also recommended that the organization should ensure that employees were satisfied with their jobs and that their needs were met, were motivated to make them feel treated with equity.
