The supply chain process has traditionally involved slow manual procedures and even slower systematic processes for handling transactions. This study sought to identify the role of e-procurement in supply chain performance. The specific objectives of the study were to identify the various types of e-procurement systems used in the public sector, to identify the extent of use of e-procurement systems in the public sector, to identify supply chain performance challenges in the public sector, and to establish the role of eprocurement on supply chain performance in the public sector. The study concluded that KRA adopted different e-procurement systems. The study identified the different challenges facing KRA in the adoption of the e-procurement systems. The study concluded that e-procurement systems play different roles. The study also concluded that there are different metrics that are used to measure the different aspects of the eprocurement systems. The study concludes that KRA has metrics in place to measure the responsiveness, reliability, agility, costs and assets. The study recommended that KRA adopts all the e-procurement systems such as e-ordering, e-Maintenance Repair Operate (MRO), e-customer Relationship Management (e-CRM), e-sourcing, e-tendering, ereverse auctioning/e-auctioning, e-informing and web-based enterprise resource planning (ERP) to ensure efficient and effective procurement service, that KRA develops strategies to address the challenges faced from the adoption of the e-procurement systems, that KRA should ensure that they have the entire necessary IT infrastructure so as to ensure the efficient delivery of procurement services and that KRA uses the performance metrics to ensure the effectiveness of the systems adopted in promoting the use of e-procurement systems.
