dc.description.abstractThe study is aimed at addressing the phenomenon of stress among working women in the Insurance Industry. That is why the study was undertaken to examine the effects of stress on career development of working women, and investigate the techniques used to manage the stressors so as to reduce the effects of physical and emotional exhaustion which can eventually lead to burnout. With multiple roles women play, it is easy to see how the double burdens of work increase the chances that a working woman will suffer from occupational related stress and subsequent burnout. If left unalleviated, women may begin to feel emotionally exhausted, detached from their colleagues and lack feelings of accomplishment which can lead to burnout. The study used both quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection. The researcher conducted five in-depth interviews and administered 100 questionnaires among the female respondents in CIC Insurance Group Ltd. For qualitative data, an interview guide was developed to assist in collecting data for the interviews. The findings revealed that 98.5% were highly depersonalized, 68.7% were highly personally accomplished and 19.4% were highly emotionally exhausted. The study established that work stressors were the main cause of stress and recommends the organization to train staff on stress management techniques, carry out periodic medical check up to detect the levels of stress among employees, introduce counseling services, reduce role overload and provide opportunities for growth and employee support.
