Abstract
Grief can be traumatizing and at times affect someone’s ability to perform particular task or ability to produce a particular outcome. The purpose of this study was to assess grief and academic resilience among adolescent in selected primary schools in Nairobi City County, Kenya. Specifically, the study was guided by the following objectives: to assess the level of grief among adolescent in selected primary schools in Nairobi City County, Kenya. To establish the level of academic resilience among adolescent in selected primary schools in Nairobi City County, Kenya, to investigate the relationship between grief and academic resilience among adolescent in selected primary schools in Nairobi City County, Kenya and to analyze the grief coping strategies among adolescent in selected primary schools in Nairobi City County, Kenya. The study was informed by the attachment theory, the dual process model of coping with bereavement theory, and the resilience theory. The study was done in CITAM Woodley Academy. The study used descriptive research design. The study utilized primary data collected using both open ended and closed questionnaires. The study used a sample size of 231 learners. The collected data was analyzed with the aid of statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). According to the findings from the Pearsons correlation matrix the study concluded that grief has a statistically significant weak negative relationship between grief and academic resilience of adolescents in selected CITAM-primary schools in Nairobi City County, Kenya.
