dc.description.abstract | This study sought to assess the needs and find out the challenges of children in Social Society (SOS) children’s villages Nairobi. Its objectives were to assess the needs of a child in SOS children’s villages Nairobi, to establish the role of SOS children’s villages Nairobi parents in meeting the needs of the children at SOS children’s villages Nairobi, and to determine the challenges faced by SOS children’s villages Nairobi parents in meeting the needs of the children. The researcher used descriptive research design. The study population was 59 respondents who included 48 children, nine SOS mothers and one Village father. The study focused on SOS children’s villages Nairobi. The study employed purposive sampling. The researcher used questionnaires in data collection, one for the children another for a focus group discussion with the mothers and another for the SOS children’s villages Nairobi father. Qualitative analysis was used to classify and summarize the primary data collected while quantitative data was collected, coded and entered in the computer for analysis. The researcher used statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) software version 21.0. The study findings established that SOS children’s villages Nairobi met the needs of the children however not fully and the gap was due to the absent father figure. The family model therefore was incomplete in its role in meeting the needs of the children. Equally, the study revealed that the challenges faced by the mothers were the workload, meeting education standards and controlling the boy child. Recommendations for this study were that more staff should be employed to reduce the workload of SOS children’s villages Nairobi parents and encourage more males to take part in taking care of the children especially the boy child at SOS children’s villages Nairobi. | |
