dc.description.abstract | This study was an assessment of strategies used by Development Financial Institutions (DFIs) in their trade finances services. The study sought to meet the following objectives; to determine the extent to which the strategies used in trade finance can be attributed to the performance of the bank; to examine the views of management and staff of PTA Bank on the strategies being used in trade finance; and to establish the challenges faced by PTA Bank in the implementation of these strategies. It used descriptive research design where data was gathered using interviews. The response rate on the questionnaires was 71% and that of interviews was 75%. The data was analyzed using Predictive Analytical Software (PASW statics 17.0). The key findings indicated that strategies used in trade finance services had led to an increase in the number of bank borrowers and increased overall performance of the Bank. However there were some challenges associated with the implementation of the trade finance strategies, chief among them being untimely payment of capital subscription by member countries and this had led to a slow pace in the implementation of the Banks diversification strategy. This study recommends that the organization should periodically check the environmental conditions to reiterate that the strategies used in trade finance are still valid, have strategic surveillance to monitor internal and external factors that are likely to affect the strategies being used, shaping the corporate culture to fit into the strategy and adopt best practices to ensure continuous improvement on the value chain activities the organization is engaged in. | en_US |
