Abstract

The concept of citizen journalism majorly focuses on the capability of ordinary through internet distribution. The purpose of this thesis was to find out the level of responsiveness to and engagement of citizen journalism by, the local population in Sigor constituency. The objectives were to find out the level of responsiveness to and engagement of citizen journalism by, the local population and finding out if citizen journalism played a role in conflict resolution. The study employed a descriptive research design and targeted residents of Sigor constituency. The study sampled 335 people of both sexes, aged above 20 years, with formal education up to secondary level. The main source of information was primary and secondary data. Data was collected using questionnaires and focus group discussions. Data was analyzed using SPSS version 19 and presented using frequency tables and figures. The study found that there was responsiveness and engagement of citizen journalism by the locals in Sigor constituency. The study also found that most residents believed citizen journalism played a role in conflict resolution. The study recommended that those in authority create platforms where the youth can be empowered economically so as to avoid idleness and resultantly reduce conflict and that those involved in citizen journalism do not use derogatory statements while going on with their work.
