| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of e-procurement on supply chain management effectiveness in the Kenyan NGO sector. The research examined the benefits and challenges of e-procurement to supply chain management effectiveness as well establishing the reasons for the adoption of e procurement strategy together with e-procurement applications that adopted for supply chain management in the Kenyan NGO sector. The study used descriptive research design. In order to achieve the objectives of the study, the researcher conveniently targeted and sampled INGOs that had implemented and used E-procurement system in their operations by conducting a preliminary research that identified the required sample. Sampling technique adopted was non-probability convenience sampling for the target population. The data was presented in tables, frequencies, and graphs. The study established that the procurement activities mostly practiced by NGOs were the provision of procurement information, sourcing for and communicating with suppliers, making payments and tendering. It was found that the major reasons for adopting e-procurement included improved accessibility to the suppliers, provision of a clear audit trail for the procurement process, enhancing cost effectiveness and reduction of lead time for the procurement process. Slow internet connectivity and cost of e-procurement system were viewed as slight problems by the NGOs. Lastly, the study revealed that the benefits of e-procurement included faster processing of purchase requisitions, satisfaction of internal customers, improved accessibility for end users and access to latest information on items among others. | |
