Abstract
This paper seeks to find out the role of alternative media played in mitigating the effects of 2024 Maai Mahiu flood traged. The paper will focus on the key players in the tragedy, and seek to understand their views on the role of alternative news platforms in broadcasting the tragedy. The paper will explore how alternative media provided access to help for the affected people of Maai Mahiu. Alternative media are distinct from established mainstream news stations and channels. Local media stations consist of radios and television networks which mostly operate in local languages. Alternative media include content creators and podcasters producing content in local languages, and airing it sometimes in real time to audiences via internet-enabled platforms.
