Item Evaluation of The Socio-Economic and Political Dimensions in The Conservation of Forests in Kenya: A Case of Mau Forest(Daystar University, School of Arts and Social Sciences, 2022-10) Saida, Chepkemoi StaceyThis study evaluated the socio-economic and political dimensions in the conservation of forests in Kenya. The study was guided by the following research objectives: to evaluate the socio-economic factors in the conservation of Mau Forest, investigate the influence of politics in hindering the conservation of Mau Forest, and explore sustainable strategies for the conservation of Mau Forest. The study used a descriptive research design, with a study population of 1200, a sample size of 92 respondents, and 5 interviewees of significant leaders involved in the Mau Forest conservation effort and living in the Southwest of Mau Forest. The research used questionnaires and interviews to collect relevant data. The data were analyzed using Microsoft 365, Excel, and SPSS version 25. The results showed that the socio-economic and political dimensions have a significant effect on the conservation effort of the Mau Forest. The study recommends the government up the praxis to have all stakeholders play part in the conservation effort. Negative political influence needs to be dealt with diplomatically and the resettlement of the forest encroachers be done amicably. Education of the masses on policy and regulation for agroforestry with sustained yield management which maintains forest ecosystem, need to be instituted.
