Abstract
Employees are the blood stream of any business. The achievements or tragedies of an organization depend solely on the performance of its employees. Because of this, top executives have realized the necessity and importance of investing in training their employees for the sake of improving their performance. This research paper aimed at determining the influence of employee training on organizational performance focusing on the hotel sector, specifically on Sankara Nairobi, a hotel in Kenya. The research adopted a qualitative approach as it reviewed a case study and literature concerning the importance of employee training in enhancing the performance of the workforce and organization at large. The study examined the theoretical framework, the models related to employee development through training programmes. Purposive sampling was employed to select a sample size of 50 respondents. A descriptive research design was adopted in the study. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21 was used for analysis to generate data array that were used for subsequent analysis of the data. Results from the study showed that training programmes such as on-the-job training, and refresher training had higher effects on the organization’s performance compared to induction or orientation training, and apprenticeship training. The study recommends that Sankara Nairobi: puts more emphasis on on-the-job training, and refresher training, as these seemed to be most influential towards its performance, scales up its motivation efforts in their training (as motivation has been linked to employee satisfaction, employee productivity, customer satisfaction, which in turn leads to employee retention and all of these are vital towards organizational performance).
