Daystar University, 2013https://repository.daystar.ac.ke/handle/123456789/3028Compensation is a form of rewards that flow to employees arising from their employment (Dessler, 1995). In its main objectives this study focused on three main areas namely: finding out the remuneration program (s) adopted in the Kenya Electricity Transmission Co.Ltd, Assess employee performance and establishing the role of remuneration on employee performance at KETRACO. The data was collected through questionnaires drawn from various departments, 82 of the staff participated in the study that formed 75% of the sampled population. In its major findings the study has identified major contributing factor on remuneration and motivation of staff as low salary and bonuses as identified from reasons for quitting their previous jobs. With a focus on employee performance, it is deduced from the study from the aspects of motivation attributed pointed to specific rewards/ incentives related modes having impact on their current positions. Competitive reward and compensation modes were also found to be key in creating a competitive advantage based on improved performance. A cumulative percent of 68.8 agreed that the rewards and compensations modes at KETRACO are competitive enough. Furthermore, the study has also identified gaps that exist especially in the area of policy on remuneration and employee performance management. Over and above, the study has also made suggestions and recommendations that include: KETRACO as an organization to start thinking in terms of total rewards and not just financial rewards as most of the findings were directed towards financial rewards. Finally, it is suggested that more studies should be carried out in the area of remuneration and employee performance, which covers the whole energy sector to establish the effectiveness of their remuneration programs in the Kenyan state corporations in the industry.enRemuneration ProgramsEmployee PerformanceKenyan Public SectorKenya Electricity Transmission Co.LtdThe Role of Remuneration Programs on Employee Performance in the Kenyan Public Sector (A Case Study of Kenya Electricity Transmission Co.Ltd)Thesis
