Knowledge on helmet use among motorcycle riders and passengers in rural areas of Rabai Sub-county, Kilifi County-Kenya. International Journal of Current Science and Technology. 4 (10).2320-8090https://repository.daystar.ac.ke/handle/123456789/4962Journal ArticleA Crossectional study was conducted to determine Knowledge on helmet use by motorcycle riders and passengers in Rural Rabai Sub County in Kilifi County, Kenya. 478 passengers and riders were selected using simple random sampling from four administrative wards of Rabai Sub county (Maina et al, 2016). Data collection was done using structured questionnaire, data was presented in form of tables and graph, statistical analysis was done using SPSS Version 20. Majority of the Passengers (99.8%) knew of Helmet hrough awarness Campaign. There was a difference in use of helmet by being aware of someone who had been involved in an accident among riders (41.4%) as compared to Passengers (5.4%). Riders with knowledge gained from driving school were 5.752 times more likely to use helmet than without the knowledge. Statistically, the married riders with knowledge were .518 times likely to use helmet than those who had not married (P=<.05). The study findings therefore deduce that the use of helmet was influenced by being married and going to driving school.
