Daystar University, School of Applied Human Scienceshttps://repository.daystar.ac.ke/handle/123456789/6073Master of Arts in Clinical PsychologyThis research aimed to investigate the incidence of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) among front-line journalists working for three media outlets in Kenya: Standard Media Group, Nation Media House, and Royal Media House. The study objectives were first to determine the prevalence of PTSD among frontline journalists who have been exposed to traumatic events; the second was to assess the relationship between PTSD and the sociodemographic characteristics of frontline journalists exposed to trauma; the third was to investigate the coping strategies that frontline journalists in Kenya use to cope with PTSD. People centred theory and Cognitive behaviour theory were used to understand PTSD, psychological impact of trauma and the coping strategies. A total of 116 individuals participated in the research, the primary data was gathered using questionnaires, a DSM-V checklist, and the PLC-5 assessment tool. The SPSS version 27 was used to analyze data, and all approvals obtained. A descriptive research design was used for the investigation, employing quantitative methods. The study used the census survey technique of sampling. The study adhered to participants confidentiality and anonymity and data was kept private. The study concluded that 95% of frontline journalists in selected Kenyan media houses met the criteria for PTSD, with significant relationships between PTSD and various socio-demographic factors. The study also concluded that positive coping strategies reduced PTSD levels, while negative coping strategies increased PTSD levels. The study recommended the implementation of effective mental health support and promotion of positive coping strategies for frontline journalists.enPost-Traumatic Stress DisorderStandard Media GroupNation Media Houseand Royal Media HouseAn Assessment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder among Frontline Journalists: A Case of Selected Media Houses in KenyaThesis
