Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate strategic human resource management practices adopted in enhancing performance of security firms in the case of G4S Kenya Limited. Its objectives were to establish the strategic human resource management practices adopted by G4S Kenya Limited, to investigate the extent to which strategic human resource management practices (SHRM) influences the performance of G4S Kenya Limited, and to suggest strategies towards improvement of SHRM and performance of G4S Kenya Limited. Descriptive research design was used and the target population of the study was 1335 top, middle and lower level managers from G4S Kenya Limited. Stratified proportionate random sampling technique was used to select a sample of 220 respondents. The questionnaire was used in data collection, and data analysis was done using SPSS software version 21. Findings of the study revealed that recruitment and selection was done less often in the organization, and that the processes in the organization were effective. The majority of the respondents also agreed to some extent that selection for manual and physical skills was not based on job description and job specification. The study also found that G4S Kenya Limited offered training and that this training was very effective and that the organization had performance appraisal systems that were effective. The study concluded that recruitment and selection affected performance in the organization and that training was a valuable activity for enhancing skills and improving staff performance and that training could address some of the factors contributing to staff retention. The study recommended that all the security firms and other organizations should endeavour to recruit qualified and skilled personnel to enhance their performance and that G4S Kenya Limited and other related firms should employ constant fixed salaries as opposed to irregular hourly rates to motivate its employees towards enhanced performance
