Abstract
Evaluations are conducted to improve services to clients, aid in the policy making process and testing social science theories and practice. Despite the many evaluations conducted for projects and programmes, it is not well established how evaluation research findings are utilized to improve service delivery. This study sought to investigate the extent to which evaluation findings are utilized within and outside Amref Kenya and to identify the gaps and barriers that limit the effective utilization of evaluation findings in Amref. Non-probability sampling approach was used in this study. The target population was the technical staffs (135) who were involved in conducting evaluations. The sample size was 30% of this a total of 41 respondents. Primary data was collected through interviews and questionnaires. Three key informant interviews were conducted on Managers who had served Amref for a long duration. Analysis of data was done through summarizing findings through frequencies, charts and graphs for descriptive statistics. Non statistical data was analyzed using emerging themes. The study findings revealed that evaluations were common and that evaluation findings were not disseminated widely both within and outside the organization. The study found that advocacy was not well entrenched within the organization. Dissemination plans for the evaluation findings are often developed but adherence to the plans is a challenge. It is recommended that Amref could consider using different channels for dissemination of evaluation findings, management can be more enthusiastic about using evaluation findings and that the organization has a great opportunity in advocacy using the evaluation findings.
