Abstract

Innovation is a method of altering an organization as a response to changes in its internal or external environment or as a preventative action taken to influence the external environment. The adoption of innovation can contribute to the performance or effectiveness of the adopting organization. The study was inspired especially due to competitive pressures mounting on organizations as customers press for higher quality standards and manufacturing firms find it increasingly vital to accelerate process and product innovation. The study was guided by the main objective to ascertain the use of strategic innovative in enhancing the performance of the organization, specifically in the food industry in Kenya. The researcher collected data using the descriptive research design. The population of the study included the staff of Sky Foods Limited Kenya, who were a total of 75 in number. Census mode of study was utilised for the study, hence the sample size remained the same as the target population of 75 respondents. The study was analysed by use of IBM (SPSS) software. Among the key findings established were that: strategic innovation helped in eliminating non-value adding activities in the production process by 68.2%, continuously improving the promotional techniques of the business by 56.1% and improving the product promotion techniques for new and existing products as noted by 51.2% of the respondents. The research recommended that Sky Foods Limited adopts a culture and structure that encourages innovation and that it should eliminate the processes in the production processes that do not add value. The research also recommended that areas for further study should focus on how the drivers of strategic innovation could influence organization performance.
