The CEO's Wife, published by the Kenya Literature Bureau in 2007, is probably Pat Ngurukie's best novel to date. The plot centres around a couple, Rose Wanja and Fred Warui, who are both executives in their own right. Warui is the CEO and together with his wife they are property owners in Lavington, Nairobi, where the third major protagonist- Nancy Njeri is their tenant. For some reason, and without any apparent provocation, Warui abandons his wife of more than 35 years and begins a relationship with Njeri despite him being a born again Christian. Wanja is the stereotypical long suffering Christian woman suffering in the hands of a stereotypical uncaring, ungrateful, irresponsible and loose husband. But that is where the stereotypes end.
