Continuous Staff Training on Integration of Faith and Work in Christian Universities

Abstract

The Vice-Chancellor of a leading Christian university in Kenya while giving a commencement speech to a large gathering of freshmen, with their parents, typified faith and learning as an airplane saying, "Let me welcome you onboard this airplane and take the opportunity to explain to you where the airplane is headed...In the end, you will decide whether or not you are willing to make our decided destination your desired destination...if not you have the opportunity to opt out." He continued to say, "we are a Christ-centered institution of higher learning seeking to expose the illuminating light of Christ...our desire is to produce men and women who are not only equipped to serve as professionals but responsible citizens of this world and the world to come." He concluded his speech to a thunderous applause from both parents and students alike adding that, "we shall expect you to attend chapel, to enroll for theology courses and to participate in bible study groups and other spiritual nurture programs of the university" (Daystar University, Vice-Chancellor's Welcome and Matriculation Address to freshmen on 28th May 2014).
