| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study was to perform an internal communication audit of the staff and faculty of Daystar University by analyzing existing communication networks, channels, activities and attitudes, and evaluating their effectiveness in achieving the goal and objectives of the organization. This research was accomplished through the use a descriptive survey using questionnaires and interviews to gather information from Daystar's employees. A descriptive analysis of Daystar's current publications and information sources for employees was also conducted to determine how sufficient these were in meet- ing the information needs of the employees. The questionnaires were distributed to 196 employees with a resulting 76% response rate (148 respondents). The interviews were conducted with a random sample of 33% of the population for a total of 66 interviews, From all these sources of data the researcher found several areas that needed corrections if the institution were to continue to grow efficiently and effectively. These were: 1) Improving upward, downward and horizontal communication- especially upward communication where employees were most dissatisfied; 2) Improving use of available communication methods and media especially Notice Boards, meetings and the Output publication; 3) Improving delegation of decision-making power and the authority imple- ment decisions; 4) Clarifying the reporting structure; and 5) Improving job satisfaction-particularly as related to promotion, motiva- tion and reward, and especially among women and personnel who have been at Daystar from 4-6 years. This report contains the researcher's conclusions and recommendations for improving Daystar's communications and consequently job satisfaction, morale and effectiveness. | |
